Recently, the machining workshop of Huayi Precision Machinery held an inspection skills competition. The event was conducted simultaneously across three categories: new employees, experienced employees, and machine setters, drawing a total of 46 participants. Centered around the workshop's zero-defect inspection requirements, the competition featured two modules: practical product measurement and a basic quality knowledge quiz. A judging panel consisting of the workshop director, process quality engineer, and process quality control (QC) inspector provided on-site scoring.

The practical product measurement module focused on assessing the practical application of measuring tools such as digital calipers and height gauges. Scoring was based on four criteria: dimensional inspection, selection of inspection tools, authenticity of data recording, and inspection time. Dimensional inspection evaluated the accuracy of measurement positions and readings; tool selection checked whether the appropriate instruments were chosen according to the workpiece and dimensional requirements; data recording authenticity assessed the timeliness and completeness of the logs; and inspection time demanded maximum speed without compromising data accuracy. Judges observed and timed the process on-site while verifying all measurement records.

The basic quality knowledge quiz was conducted as a written exam based on the "Essential Knowledge for the Regularization of New Machining Employees." It primarily tested employees' mastery of foundational quality principles and mandatory job knowledge. The competition was fast-paced, with participants completing measurements and answering questions as required, striving to increase their inspection speed while guaranteeing accurate data.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, Wang Yipeng from the new employee group, Zhang Zhongda from the experienced employee group, and Wang Haicheng from the machine setter group won first place in their respective categories. After the competition, Zhang Jianxun, Assistant Manager of the Manufacturing Department; Qian Bin, Deputy Manager of the Quality Assurance Department; Fang Xiaobao, Assistant Manager of the Human Resources Department; and Yu Xiuli, Operations Director, presented awards to the winners and delivered speeches focusing on workshop quality management and employee development.

Zhang Jianxun urged everyone to focus on their daily roles, stating that the dedication to data accuracy shown during the competition must not be left on the contest floor; rather, it must be brought back to the inspection stations to ensure quality requirements are executed at every step according to standard operating procedures. Qian Bin discussed the relationship between quality and skills, emphasizing that quality is the prerequisite for production, and suggested organizing more skill-based competitions in the future to improve employees' inspection capabilities through continuous practice and benchmarking. Speaking on new employee training, Fang Xiaobao noted that the addition of vocational college graduates has brought fresh blood to the workshop. He highlighted that a consistently positive atmosphere relies on experienced employees mentoring newcomers and fostering mutual growth. In her closing summary, Yu Xiuli pointed out that new employees, veterans, and machine setters all possess unique experiences. The key takeaway is to summarize the best practices demonstrated in the competition and promote them workshop-wide, empowering more employees to grow and laying a solid foundation for stable quality.

This competition served not only as an on-site test of the machining workshop's inspection skills but also as a valuable opportunity to identify skill gaps and unify operational standards. Through the event, employees gained a clearer understanding of the operational requirements for tools like digital calipers and height gauges, as well as a more direct appreciation for precision, speed, and data recording standards. Moving forward, the workshop will conduct targeted training to address the weak points exposed during the competition, reduce quality issues caused by measurement errors, and shorten inspection times. This will build a strong foundation for implementing zero-defect quality control and fostering a workshop culture centered on "accurate measurement, quality first, and full participation."
